How to Use the Law of Assumption to Manifest Anything (Neville Goddard's Method)

What Is the Law of Assumption?

The Law of Assumption is the cornerstone of Neville Goddard's teachings. Simply put: whatever you assume to be true about yourself, your life, and your world will harden into fact. Not through wishful thinking, but through a deliberate, sustained shift in your inner state.

Unlike the Law of Attraction, which focuses on desire and vibration, the Law of Assumption asks you to go one step further: assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled, now.

The Core Principle: Assumption Hardens Into Fact

Neville Goddard taught that consciousness is the only reality. Your outer world your relationships, finances, health, circumstances is nothing more than a reflection of your dominant inner assumptions. Change the assumption, and the outer world must follow.

This isn't metaphor. Neville was emphatic: "Assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled and observe the route that your attention follows."

How to Apply the Law of Assumption: Step by Step

1. Define Your Desire Clearly

Get specific. Not "I want more money" but "I am financially free, earning $X per month doing work I love." Vagueness produces vague results.

2. Construct a Scene That Implies Fulfillment

Choose a short, vivid mental scene that would naturally occur after your desire is already real. A friend congratulating you. Holding the keys to your new home. Reading a message that confirms the job offer.

3. Enter the State of the Wish Fulfilled

This is the heart of the method. Relax deeply ideally in the drowsy state just before sleep (what Neville called the "state akin to sleep" or SATS). Play your scene in your mind as though it is happening now. Feel the naturalness of it. Let the emotion arise organically.

4. Persist in the Assumption

One session is rarely enough. The key is to make your desired state your dominant inner posture throughout the day. When doubt arises and it will return to your scene. Assume again.

5. Detach and Allow

Once you have planted the assumption, release the need to control how it manifests. Neville taught that the "bridge of incidents;"  the chain of events that leads to your desire will unfold naturally. Your job is to hold the end, not engineer the means.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Manifesting from lack: If your inner state is "I want this because I don't have it," you are assuming lack. Assume already having it instead.
  • Checking for results: Constantly looking for evidence of your manifestation reinforces the assumption that it hasn't arrived yet.
  • Inconsistency: Assuming your desire for five minutes, then spending the rest of the day in doubt, cancels the work. Persistence is everything.

A Simple Daily Practice

Each night before sleep, spend 5–10 minutes in your scene. Feel it. Breathe it. Fall asleep in the state of the wish fulfilled. This is the most powerful window for impressing the subconscious mind and it costs nothing but your attention.
